Joseph Gillespie graduated from Towson University with a degree in elementary/middle school
special education. Before Towson, Joseph fell in love with teaching students with disabilities when he
worked at Cedar Lane School, a pre-k through 21 special needs school. Joseph worked there for four
summers while attending high school and college.
After graduating from college with a degree in special education, Joseph was hired to teach in
Alexandria City Public Schools, VA. Joseph taught at George Washington Middle School for three years.
Joseph had an average case load of around 15 students each year. Most of his students in those years
had difficulties with executive functioning in varying ways. He is currently teaching special education in Howard County.
Joseph is a kind and compassionate teacher who cares about his student’s success and well-
being. He cultivates a safe environment that engages his students and makes them feel comfortable for
learning. Executive functioning has always been a part of Joseph’s personal life and his students lives. He is excited to help others achieve excellence in their life the way he found it in his.
